Kolhapur is known as a spice lovers paradise. Kolhapuri food is not only about the fiery hotness (as one would usually assume) but also about the flavors derived from the masalas (spice mixes), which in this case are all made at home. The city is a food heaven not only for the scrumptious thali but also the best fresh produce you can lay your hands on. The farmers from the near by villages get their fresh vegetables from their fields every evening and sell them at the central market. Sikandar's runs a small khanaval i.e. a family-run home-styled restaurant in his home compound. The food is cooked by his wife and daughter-in-law and the vegetables used are fresh out of the fields. What more can you ask for?
