The Palakkad Tamil Brahmin community is born out of migrants from Tanjavur in Tamil Nadu. Although the language spoken is Tamil, it is heavily influenced with elements of the local Malayali dialect. As with language, so with the food! The humble vegetarian cuisine combines mild and eclectic local vegetables with a heavy dose of rice, lentils, coconut and tamarind to create nutritious and healthy one-pot wonders. Served on banana leaves, the wide spread of simple, tasty and nutritious fare, promises to leave you licking your fingers (quite literally)! No wonder that the community has pot-bellies - it wouldn't honor the allure of their food otherwise!
