The essence of any home cooked meal lies in the age-old techniques and methods that all grandmoms used. And the best place to learn and understand about these methods is at the home of a local. Judith and Mel live in a gorgeous heritage home in the heart of Fort Kochi. When you enter Eden Gardens, you will be transported to a different era. Couple that with an amazing authentic Kerala cuisine and you will truly believe that you are in God's Own Country. . Upon arrival: Before you indulge in the feast to follow, you will learn how to make some traditional Kerala recipes. You will get to assist the home-chef in the kitchen. Depending on the season, the home-chef will show you how to make Puttu (a cylindrical bread made with rice and coconut), Appam (quintessential Kerala pancakes) and a vegetable stew. If you have any specific requests for a recipe, we will check with the family! A fun twist: A tray full of Indian spices and herbs will be put in front of the diners. The idea is to guess as many names of spices and herbs correctly and to understand their use in Indian cooking! The Grand Kerala Meal: After the kitchen session, join the family at their dining table to enjoy a beautiful meal. Please note - This is not a professional cooking class but rather an opportunity to cook and dine with a local home-chef. The experience will be as much about the stories around the food and local culture, as it would be about the meal itself.
