Come relish the flavours of the East Indian community, Valkar Vasaikar style!
Opposite Giriz Talao, Vasai
Max. 6 diners
The East Indians are the original inhabitants of Vasai, Thane and Bombay (Mumbai). They are Roman Catholics who speak a variety of dialects of Marathi with some Portuguese thrown in and the Valkars who live alongside other East Indian groups like the Vadvals, Kuparis, Samvedis, etc. are part of the very fabric of Vasai’s Catholic community. East Indian cuisine has flavours hinting at Maharashtrian and Portuguese cooking, and thanks to Vasai’s generous coastline, there is a large selection of seafood that one can also enjoy. The fancy meal that our home-chef Regina is preparing includes meats such as chicken and pork as well as a lovely prawns sambari. The cherry on the icing is the rich, local honey that you will get to savour at the end of the meal, as part of the dessert. Enveloped in lush greenery, Giriz is located in a part of Vasai that has been untouched by the concrete jungles. You will experience a certain old world charm of Vasai along with the vintage-style homes which enhance the natural aura and beauty of the place. Option available to diners: Take a walk through history with Bernard, Regina's husband and interact with the locals to know more about their way of life and the fascinating community of the East Indians that live here. You can start by visiting a 100 year old church and walk through the beautiful village admiring some vintage homes and end the walk with a scrumptious meal at Regina's. Post your booking, we will get in touch with you to confirm your participation in the village walk which starts at 12.15 PM. There is no additional charge for the walk. :)
